Thoughtful Analysis . . . Responsible Policy

The Georgia Budget and Policy Institute (GBPI) is the state’s leading independent, nonprofit, non-partisan organization engaged in research and education on the fiscal and economic health of the state of Georgia.

The Institute provides reliable and timely analyses of Georgia’s budget and tax policies and promotes greater state government fiscal accountability, improved services and an enhanced quality of life for all Georgians. GBPI’s unique resources and capabilities gives it the ability to assist organizations, program advocates, policy makers and the public with accurate information on important topics in a way that both budget experts and average citizens can understand.

The GBPI also works closely with advocates for at-risk populations and experts on fiscal and financial matters in analyzing state budget constraints and opportunities. Through partnerships with grassroots organizations and mutual collaborations, GBPI can serve partner organizations by unraveling the maze of state budget and tax data to better assist them in the pursuit of their policy objectives.

The GBPI was initially organized in January 2004 by an advisory council composed of citizens who see the value in applying fiscal and tax analysis to the state budget for Georgia’s economic well being. Initial funding support came from the Sapelo Foundation and the Public Welfare Foundation.

The Institute’s board is currently conducting statewide networking activities among advocacy, analytical and grant-making groups and pursuing additional funding opportunities as it expands its reach across Georgia.
